The ship was a was a Bayfield-class attack transport that served with the US Navy during World War II. Name after a county in Pennsylvania.
Decommissioned in 1946, lived until 1977 when it was finally scrapped.

She was known as a “protected cruiser”. However, she had no protection to her vitals save that given by an armored deck and only gun shields to protect her crew.
The engines were expansion, driving twin screws. During trials she did 19.76 knots.
